UniKey RTC Enveloper Protection Solution

Introduction

UniKey Time provides Real Time Clock feature and this article will introduce how to integrate UniKey Time with your own projects by UniKey Envelop Tool and how to use UniKey Envelop Tool for integrating Real Time Clock feature.

Each UniKey Time has a real battery embedded; this provides the UniKey Time dongle the Real Time Clock feature. This means that clock inside of the UniKey is unique and independent from the computer’s system time. The protected software will be expired on time and even the user changes his system time, the protected software still won’t work for him.

Each UniKey Time has 16 Time Modules; each UniKey Time Module can be used for setting the expired time of the protected software.
UniKey Envelop Tool is stored in UniKey_SDK\Utilities\Enveloper\UniKey Enveloper Utility folder.

To protect software by using UniKey Enveloper is very simple; users can perform it by following the procedure described below.

Open a New Project

In order to use the RTC feature, please make sure you are using UniKey Time dongle.

Then please open UniKey Envelop Tool.

Use File->New Solution to create a new solution.

Choose UniKey Time as UniKey Type and input Solution Name.

Use Add button for adding your own target software to the project.

You can apply protection directly to data files, executables and DLLs. (For more information on Envelop Tool, please refer UniKey Envelop Tool articles)

Hit Professional Mode and Choose Time Settings

Under Bind Time Module Settings Page, please use Bind a Expiration Date, this will allow you to set a expired date for your target software.

Then please choose Bind Module No.0, there are 16 Time Modules for each UniKey Time dongle, we use Module No.0 for binding the Time Module at here.

The Time field will allow you to input the expired date you want for your protected software.

By checking Expiration Time Warning, you can set expired date you want. Then before the protected software got expired, it will automatically pop up notification for you.

Generate Protected Files

After finishing all the settings for RTC feature, please hit Protect button. Then the UniKey Envelop Tool will automatically do all the integration work and generate a protected file.

Please Note, the UniKey Envelop Tool should be used under a 32-bit system and the enveloped files can be used for both 32-bit and 64-bit system.

The protected file can only work when the correct UniKey dongle is inserted into the system.
